Introduced with the new khaki uniforms ( late 19th century) these are today referred to by collectors as "Chocolate" or "Chocolate brown" and were quite short-lived as they were disliked by the troops (losing the smart scarlet tunic was bad enough !).

As a result they are rather scarce today with some regiments badges being as rare as hens teeth!

They are made from a hard white metal with a rich brown chemical (?phosphate?) finish rather than paint.

This one is to the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders and as was the type in the period is without the title "Cameron" which exact design later became the belt clasp badge of the Queens Own Highlanders (Seaforths and Camerons).
