I am sharing my US Army 24th Infantry Division patch. It seems to me to be wartime vintage.

in my collection this would be Korean war era based on the medium edge of the patch-note a greyish colour.

Every single WWII era patches were hand cut back to the edge and use either Khaki or green twill medium.

Also like the ASF ,1st Cav , Seventh Army they were manufactured post War as the units were active for some time there after.

You will also find that WWII era stocks were still issued until supplies were exhausted.

So if the edge is left cut and not bordered, it is WWII vintage? All of the ones I posted are post war production, but wartime production can be found on post war uniforms. Did I get that somewhat right? I have an ETO patch with an od green border that I thought was WWII, that could be post war also?

I have more pre WWII and Korean era 24th ID than WWII!

I do have one but I will look for a better example for my collection.

Note that slight grey around the edge is me cutting out the background .

Cut edge SSI were used upto 1966 , then a merrowed border (thick over stitched border) was authorized for all SSI there after. There is one company that produced merrowed patches during the war called Merrowed Embroidery Co. (?) They used special embroidery over locking machines , the most well known is 506th PIR.
Yes WWII era patches can be found on 1950's uniforms until supply stocks were exhausted.

Generally the US supply system used FIFO -First in First Out hence you will see more c 1945 contacted box.
