    Dear all,

I bought this Pilot Wings almost 25 years ago as a WWII original and I would like to confirm whether it is a period item or not and, if not, how I could identify it regarding the correct period.

Could you, please, help me on this?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    Alex.

    Hi Mate,
Looks like WW2 period wing to me with the pin construction and raised step.
There were clutch backs made during WW2 though not as common as pin backs.
The grips are post ww2 butterfly types though.
Next time try to put the photos the right way around , giving me a sore neck and headache looking at them .
    Cheers

I thought those look like WW2 type clutch fasteners. They started to have dimples on them after WW2. I used to have a visual reference for them. It might be on my home PC. I'll check when I get off work. I did find the site on my phone, but the pic's the OP posted of them are all blurry and I can't make out what they say to give positive ID date
But I think those clutch type are correct.
I do agree those pic's are making my neck ache!!

    Hi all!

First, thank you very much for your opinions and Im am sorry for not putting the photos the right way around!!! Actually they are a cell phone ones and I did not find out how to rotate them here...

Based on the excelent reference site sent by Phil (thanks a lot Phil!!!), I could check the Ballou Type Clutch and it is definitely the 1943 Plain Ballou - Pat Nos 2308412 and 2308424 made of brass.

So also based on Rick's opinion, I do have a WW2 pilot wing!! This is great!!!

Thank you all for your help!!!

    Best regards,

    Alex.

Thats a good pick up Phil,
I can't see well with out of focus sideways photos lol.
I know about these but never seen one of those clasps in real life.
The only one's Ive ever seen on WW2 Wings clutch backs is the round ones shaped like a stepped cap.
    Cheers Rick
