My information is that Gardone ceased production of this post WW1. I've also heard that the 938XVII is a date stamp. Either one of those two are wrong, or, my theory, is that it was restamped during facist Italy. Not sure if I'm wrong or right. Hell, maybe it's a M91/38 and I just don't know it.

Additionally, maybe it's a restamp to reissue it as an M91/38? Curious on any answers.

    Please and thank you!

V8729 is the serial number. Looks like it is import stamped. Gardone is the maker. They made rifles after W.W.1. The Roman numerals are the Fascist Year of production. Find a copy of the Hobbs book. Italy's Military Rifle if you can. Rich A. in Pa.

Hi; what the caliber is? Is it there the folding bayo? The Roman numeral is XVI, which is consistent with year 1938 (16th year of fascist era).
