I have the same problem with my dirk, the backside of the sakura snags on the wire wrap. Unscrewing risks breaking the wrap, so I haven't pushed it.
Hard to say whether the sharpening was done by the owner or post-war. The one's I have seen are not sharpened. The maker stamp is of the Suya Shoten company. They were a quality operation and made many dirks, some swords, and lots of fittings. The blade is one-piece steel, not traditionally made.
Fuller's book says this style superceded the 1883 version, possibly in 1914, and was carried to the end of WWII. So no way to narrow the date down.
Nice example!
