Gunto Sword Tassels
Sorry if this topic has been covered before, but I’m currently waiting to receive my first Shin Gunto. It’s a Army Rinji Seishiki from 1944. Unfortunately, the sword does not have an Officer’s tassel, so I plan on finding one eventually, most likely in brown/red or brown/blue. Can anyone provide any tips on how to tell original from reproduction? And does anyone have any reputable places that typically sell them? Thanks.

There is a thread here about the tassels with some very interesting information from Mr Komiya, and another conversation about real v fake in the military section of Nihonto Message Board.

Doug at Gunto Art Swords usually has some. Always great quality, but he charges more than market value.
