Biologically, "Oyatsubu" is the remnant of what used to be a dorsal fin that had degenerated. That is why it is at the center of the skin, and limited to only a couple of grains per skin. On Samurai swords, the skin is used so this mound of a grain comes close to the top end of the grip, close to the Kabutogane.

If you go to a higher class Sushi restaurant in Japan, you will get a fresh clump of wasabi along with a tiny grater of Ray skin, which works like a cheese grater.

    Good evening
I just received the dagger, it is superb.
I'm just wondering about one thing.
I disassembled the handle with great precision for you, the tang and I find it has no markings.
    is this normal ?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

After it is really a very good condition.
For you everything is consistent despite the lack of marking ?

Hi Kelenfold, most of these naval dirks (as is yours) were machine made and as such were not “marked”.
You have a very nice standard naval dirk.

The koshira (fittings) are supposedly made for a high ranking officer and the blade is a very old tanto signed Ujifusa.

It's very beautiful, thank you very much for sharing !
To be honest, i had a hard time finding any consistency in dirk prices.
I bought it for 800 € including delivery.
Did I pay the price on average where it is too expensive in your opinion ?

    Thank You
