    Hello
For my first post on the forum I would like to have your advice, your help in identifying this dagger that I will probably buy.
I have heard that there are very well made copies so I am wary ...
What do you think of this model ? Could you give me a date of manufacture ? Is it normal that the blade is without a temper line ?
Everything seems to me to be coherent, but I prefer to have your opinion before starting.
    I thank you in advance

    Cordially Gaëtan

    Its a genuine navy dirk.
Since its engraved fittings I will say end 20’s start 30’s.
Normal with a fake hamon , that disappear when polished.

    Hello
Thank you very much for your answer ! Can you tell me more about the "Normal with a fake hamon , that disappear when polished."

Is one of the pieces of the dagger fake?

PS : Your collection is superb !

    Thank you

Hi Gaetan, what is meant by “fake hamon” is simply acid etching on the blade to give it the appearance of a tempered edge. It is purely cosmetic and was done by the manufacturer. It is not very durable so over time can wear off.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi
    Thanks again
I still have a few questions.
Is the scabbard sharkskin or Ray Skin ?
I've seen on this web-site that daggers have different names. :
    Naval-Dirks
can this dagger qualify in this list ?

    Thanks for your help

The site shows Meiji-Showa period navy dirks. yours are from Showa period. Better quality from that period.

Gaetan, the scabbard (saya) on the dirk you posted is polished sharkskin(shagreen).
