There's a Gunto sword I'm keen on getting. It looks to be real, but when dealing with Ebay, I'm never positive that I'll be cheated. So far, I've been lucky. This Gunto sword appeared and it looks to be original. It doesn't have factory stamps. The seller says it's real. Any help would be great.

    Sapper,

Looks legit to me. You'll see a faint "Na" just to the left of the serial number. Nagoya stamped their blades "cold" so the imprint usually is faint, but from what I can see, it's there. Beautiful blade, too!

The tassel is from a company-grade officer sword and doesn't go with this NCO Type 95. It just means you'll have to buy a nice Officer gunto to put it on!!! The NCO tassles are leather and look like this:

I would request more photos. The tassel is for an Officers Gunto. NCO is made of leather. Here is a photo of one of the NCO variants without the buckle
If the sword is a repro it is a very good one!!!

If you turn it 90 degrees, it could be a “Na”.

I agree. A nice looking top latch iron tsuba version from the Nagoya Arsenal. Scabbard drag looks good too and is of the Nagoya style. Not unusual to have limited fuchi stampings due to the hardness of the metal.

    Regards,
    Stu
