japanese cap? , real or fake

hi all. some years ago i bought this cap from a dutch guy selling vehicle parts at beltring . it was not a lot of money. i thought it was the real thing at the time but now i am not too sure. it is not well made.and it seems flimsy for a bit of military kit. it has no markings at all. it may not even be japanese. did other countries use this style of cap. i mean people like communist insurgents in malaya maybe ?? i enclose pics but it a difficult item to photograph.. the white string is probably new. hoping someone can confirm one way or the other if is right or not. cheers mike

looks old, not much money for those caps... mabye Japan?
