Default Japanese IJN T90 Helmet with 2nd Pattern Cover

A nice Type 90 IJN Combat Helmet complete with emblem. Grey ship board paint with olive drab overpaint on exterior. It's missing the chin strap. Liner is nice and soft.

Not sure if the emblem is lacquered brass or steel. Still looking at it.

Complete with 2nd pattern padded cover. Mint emblem but two small rips on rear, typical with being on a helmet for ages.

Appears to be a size "Large". But could find no stampings on the shell (maybe under some surface rust. Navy anchor stamp is present on interior leather liner.

Two of the liner pads still contain the horse hair. Liner stitch with 3632 or 2363 depending on how your read it.

Helmet is named to a Seaman Sasahira (thanks Nick!)

Includes a nice NLF gas mask as well. A bit dry but displays well

Thanks to our new member Robert (Ghoulish) for passing this along to me. Greatly appreciated!!!

    Regards,

    Michael

As I recently explained, the grey has nothing to do with ship use, but was merely the navy's standard helmet color before 5th June 1939. So this one would have been repainted after that date. The Evolution of the Japanese Army Steel Helmet (1918-1945) Revised and Expanded Version

Thank you Nick. I agree and now remember reading your thread a few months back. Was not insinuating that it was used on a ship, just that the color is what some call "shipboard grey". Yes..."collector" terminology and not wholly accurate which is what you so diligently strive to correct (but noticed how I didn't call it an SNLF helmet ....so you're contributions to this forum are being absorbed! )

    As always Jake, thanks!

This makes three. Including a civilian and an mint IJA helmet. So unless something "pops" up, I'm pretty much done in this arena and back to German Stahlhelms....

    Michael,

Very nice grouping, a really excellent catch. We have spoken about the 'Horse hair' so no further comment.
A nice helmet and cover with the added bonus of that difficult to find gas mask.
