    Cool Navy Podium Cover

I’ve always wanted one of these. Seen a few over the decades. Uncertain if they are actually podium covers or ? Measures 6’ X 3’ I’ve been told that others had different color borders that indicated branch of service. That would make mine medical. Attached label proported to say Yokosuka Submarine Base.

    What is written:
    横潜基貸一

    What it means:
    横須賀潜水艦基地貸一
    Yokosuka Sensuikan Kichi Kashi Ichi
    Yokosuka Submarine Base Rental 1

I’ve seen the “rental” kanji used on uniforms/equipment, but do not know how that is properly translated in this case. Perhaps the cover is “loaner #1”???

Then there is し切り(貸切) [kashikiri] reserving (for exclusive use); (full) booking; chartering; block reservation.

So "Loaner #1" might be a better explanation.

Quick and dirty reference for branch colors of the IJN:

The color and representations might have shifted over time and the chart above appears to address only the NCO "add on" Cherry blossom so it may not address the actual color meaning of a traditional "podium cover" (or whatever these are used for). We need Nick to weigh in on that issue.

Another IJN chart states the following and I have used it to decipher colors on IJN collar tabs. But it too may not be fully accurate.
