Back in May I bought some Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong currency, from a seller in Hong Kong, and it took about 3 months to get them. That's about all I bought, except a few Japanese Occupation stamps, this year. Demand is way, way up for Mummed Japanese rifles, even if they are mismatched and otherwise junk condition. I am not doing much collecting anymore, used to be heavy into it in the past. Just studying it much more now and still picking up books. My library is getting huge.

No one here in the US knows for sure what the future will bring with regards to firearms and collecting. If the Left takes over, they will be moving very quickly on banning as many firearms as possible as quickly as possible. Their actual goal is complete disarming of the public, which is something too many hunters and shotgun people don't seem to grasp. In the past, militaria and pre-1945 weapons were basically ignored but I doubt that will be the case in the future. One of their stated goals is to prevent online sales and shipping of guns and gun parts (and ammo) which would for sure directly impact collectors as most of us use the internets for much of our collecting now. No idea if a C&R FFL would be exempt or not, but not everyone is a C&R either. In addition, many online platforms are starting to ban sales of anything they consider racist or hate inspiring so much of the German collectibles popular online selling resources are dwindling and Japanese good luck flags and 1,000 stich belts in collections are being touted as something comparable to grave robbing so those are slowly being restricted too.

When the Left finally takes over this country, freedom will become the enemy to them and the movement to banish it will be strong.

I don't really collect Japanese items but I do look out for the helmets since my end goal is to get 1 of each helmet from the major powers of WW2 (and WW1 but that's been completed) from what I can recall it doesn't seem like prices on the Japanese military helmets have went up by that much if at all. If I had to guess how the end of 2020 or 2021 will go for the hobby in the US I agree with Devil's Bank that due to the economic situation you'll see items come out of collections or entire collections appear on the market. Another reason more items will appear is from people sadly passing away either from the virus or old age, as the war is 75 years old and the veterans are even older. As a side note I think it would be a great idea to have a general thread about the state of the hobby in the discussion part of the forum as it would be interesting to hear what items have gotten more popular or what people have noticed in their niche.

Just won a Toyama Gakko sports medal at auctions.yahoo.jp.co and now have been told that they only ship by DHL (for Y3,000 -- 30% of what I paid), or pay ¥1,000 and it goes by ship: 3 months projected delivery tim!!!! I'll sit on it for a few days, but will probably have it sent by ship.

    Hi Tom,

I use Buyee.jp — a buyer proxy who will receive the item then ship to your US address. If you use yahoo.auction.jp you’ll see their advert at the top of the page.

Thanks, Guy. Started registering with them years ago, but ultimately stuck with Rinkya instead.

Most stuff I buy is off a dealers table, seen in hand. This is especially true of Japanese blades. Most general dealers know little about them, and the specialists that do, charge premium prices. So no new blades till the fairs open again. I will buy koshirae online because you don't get the same problem with hidden faults, but still had a surprise with my most recent purchase, not tragic, but still a surprise.
