Default Type 90 Helmet - Thoughts Please

    Hi,

I have the opportunity to purchase this helmet. It is priced relatively high, but the seller states it is the nicest he has seen.

Any thoughts are appreciated, a second pair of eyes never hurts.

I have never seen one this nice, most saw heavy use.

    Thank you

Much appreciated! We don't see many Japanese helmets here. I think most are certainly state side.

Any idea what the characters on the leather mean?

Here are my thoughts. What is "relatively high" in terms of cost? I think you will see these in $750 to $950 range. It is in superb condition. Often, the liner is damaged, the cloth ties are cut down and the pads are missing. All of those parts are in great shape. The one liner may have a year of issue stamp so I wonder if it is a later war issue. It is not unknown to locate helmets in this condition so don't let that throw you. Some photos of mine for comparison attached. Neil

PCVANDO - are you going to purchase that helmet? I hope you do! If so, follow up with some more photos of the interior and markings. There are often surprises found inside. Note on my example that the GI or Navy man who picked it up wrote his name on the inside rear in pencil. If you magnify the photo you can see it clearly. NH

Yes sir, I purchased the helmet. I paid more than the market rate is on a decent Type 90, but this (imo) is quite nice.

I mostly collect Japanese small arms, flags, and equipment but figured it was time for a lid.

I will take nice pics and do a separate thread in the coming days
