Article about: Hello gents, During the exhibition in my old campus 2 months ago, a museum shown a machine gun. But too bad there's no description about it. And judging from the shape i think this is type 8

    Hello gents,

    During the exhibition in my old campus 2 months ago, a museum shown a machine gun.

    But too bad there's no description about it. And judging from the shape i think this is type 89 (please correct me if i'm wrong in here ). My question is, is anyone know the marking means in here? And from what year this MG was made?

    The top 3 are Kokura Arsenal stamp and numbers 8 and 9. Someone else will have to translate the rest.

    Why "89"? It was called "eighty-nine" because it was licensed/produced in 1929, and the 2589th year since the first Emperor of Japan was 1929 (皇紀/Kōki 2589). More about the Japanese Imperial Year.

    2589 = 1929
    2600 = 1940
