Met a Vietnam veteran today selling some of his collection, he showed me some of the stuff he wouldn’t be selling and I just wanted to see if anyone could help me give some more information to him, everything except the long banner was from his uncle who served in WWII

The flag with all the writing is not a battle flag but a "good luck" flag ( hinomaru yosegaki) which was presented to the soldier and signed by family, friends, co-workers, etc.

The headband has nothing to do with Kamikaze pilots. That said, I do not know what it says. See Nicks thread below. Not the same headband but I think it will be something similar.

Others can tell you if these items are original or not.

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

    The headband:

    皇軍必勝
    Kōgun Hisshō
    Imperial Army Assured Victory
Assured victory of the Imperial army

I have no idea as to authenticity.

The flag was given to an employee of Showa Photo Industries by his colleagues. This company had its HQ in Tokyo and a branch in Osaka and a plant in Kanagawa prefecture. The company merged to become part of Konica in March 1944, so this flag is dated from before that merger.

The headband appears to be a commercially printed one for civilians.

The one mistake I made was not adding the 郎 to Katsujirō's given name. I had it written 勝次 [Katsuji] instead of 勝次郎 [Katsujirō].
