The 23rd generation Kanefuse would be making Showato in WW2.

This interview talked the inventor of Lida latch used on the Type 98 Gunto. The inventor, Lida Kunitaro was the 2nd generation owner of the store Lida Koendo. The current owner is the 5th generation.

The color is certainly new to me. The fabric seems to be off, too. It's thin. It's different.
That last one has the Iada latch (sp?) that closes when the sword is withdrawn, covering the saya opening.
In the interview they were talking about soldiers crawling on the battlefield. The dirt got into the saya as a result.
