Next question ...although the bayonet is a standard 98K type bayo ...yet the markings only make it afforded to the Police...so does the thread stay here or go to the Police and Fire forum?
Great info Gents Thankyou

would fit. It would be better to properly present the individual originals anyway instead of messing everything up in such a topic
Larry, There may not be an easy answer to the question. The German Police had training as for the German Army but not as intensive, and generally with conformance to what we might call Light Infantry. Plain clothes police followed a somewhat different path usually with just pistols. The basic training of the uniformed police sufficient enough that a number of the usually younger and more capable members were in wartime formed into formations as a part of the Wehrmacht. But prior to that time there were also better trained personnel that were more like soldiers with military grade weapons (versus a uniformed Policeman directing traffic). Pre-wartime (and wartime) police manuals also listing the S.98/05 bayonets and the same type sabers as used by the German Army cavalry. The police related W/SS formations a complicated matter, likewise the Fire Protection services are also more complicated, and involved with the German Police, than a casual collector might think. All that said, I suspect the simplest solution for now might be to leave the topic here and see how that works?? Best Regards, Fred
Thanks Fred ..to further this topic..I would also like to hear from Anderson ..Sleepwalker and Andy on their thoughts on a designation. Just curious.
Regards Larry

It probably should remain in the "K98 bayonet forum" where it is alongside other combat S84/98. A move to the Police & Fire forum put's it among civil sidearms rather than combat bayonets. A small technical distinction admittedly. Unless begin a "fake etched blade forum" and lump all the horrors together?
