Hello Messia ....Im quite sure Naval officers may have personalized their daggers and would wait for a couple more Naval Gents here to comment as in my eyes the name appears to have been recently stamped onto the ricasso.

In regards to the information of the Naval Officers name..the Gents here can point you into that direction.

Hi,
the abbreviation “Ob. Masch.” should mean “Obermaschinist”, senior machinist. This rank of ann NCO with portepee, it allowed wearing a dagger with a portepee. However, it is not easy to say for sure when the inscription was made.

It's hard to say when the inscription on the blade was made; it's no longer known. However, what I can say is that it appears that there is nickel inside the inscription, and the color near the inscription looks correct and unoxidized. If the inscription had been laser-engraved, it would have been visible because the high temperature would have left traces of nickel around the edges. Furthermore, the inscription itself does not add value to the item, as thebig said, it was wear an ordinary person.
More often, blades bear inscriptions of generals, colonels, or the signatures of Hitler and Himmler.

Nobody said that the inscription was made after the war. It has been said that it is difficult to say with certainty when it was made. But this circumstance does not mean that there are any problems with the dagger. Personally, I would take this dagger in my collection.

If Oleg likes it, that’s good enough for me. I like this one too and would happily have it in my collection. It’s got a nice grip and scabbard along with a weathered knot to boot.
