This type of buckle is a longtime discussion. Did it exist or not?
I do not quote from Nash, or any other current reference, but from
    older sources.
I do not set any value to the Nash or Angolia-book, as for me much
information is not correct at all.

This is the announcement from the navy Verordnungsblatt, as well
as the announcement from the Uniformen-Markt. Note both notes are
    from August and September 1936.
The announcement speaks from a buckle as for the army from light-weight
metals, but for navy gilded. There is not mentioned if this would be a version
for service (Behördenausführung) or the extra version, used with a walking-out
    dress.
Note the description for the army mentions it to be pebbled (dress-regulation -
oberflächen ausserhalb der Schildform sind gekörnt).

Note the saying: jedoch statt in der Farbe der Feldblusenknöpfe
    in goldgelber Farbe
(however instead of the color for the field-tunic buttons
    in golden-yellow color).

From these announcements manufacturers will have produced
the regular army buckle, but with a gilded coating.
As manufacturers produced the version for the service uniform,
they without any doubt will have made them for the so-called
    "extra" uniform:
    Koppelschloss für Dienstkoppel mit Profilöse ohne oder mit Lederwiderhalt;
Leichtmetall für Extrakoppel mit aufgeklammerter Auflage und angeschnittener Öse
oder mit geprägtem Emblem und gelöteter Öse.

PS: One should note that with the UM from March 1, 1936 there was
no mention of a gilded buckle. The announcement practically was as the
one from September where the gilded version was noted.

Many thanks for that Wim, so we now have official confirmation that gilt KM buckles were actually produced

I am convinced that the one or the other shown at the start of this thread
might be quite doubtful. My guts say the gilding is done wrong! Or they
did not pay enough attention to the correct buckle material. But this then
could be a fact from after the war.

Thanks for finding that Wilhelm, very informative. Excellent to see it in period documentation...

As for my original buckle that started this topic, it came to me from the veteran's family along with other wartime bring backs. I know the son in law of the veteran involved, have every faith in him, which is why I always had no doubt it was wartime produced.

I was told by Peter Nash that he based the mention of this buckle in his book based on period documentation.

Anyway, a very valuable bit of evidence for the buckle collecting community, thank you...
