An Interesting Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2.Klasse / 1 Klasse mit Schwertern
I picked this up at a local Militaria show last weekend.
When it was handed to me, I knew it was different. When it was put in my hand, I immediately felt that the reverse was not flat but rather, it was actually a KVK 2.
The jump ring has been removed and the hinge and pin have been soldered to the reverse. Although there still appears to be some of the frosting remaining where the jump ring was removed, I believe it is tarnish.
The pin has been soldered solidly within the hinge so it will not open. There is no catch.
I have found out that it is a late war, zinc, Deschler Kriegsverdienstkreuz and the pin and hinge set up is for a pre war Deumer EK I.
It cost me about the same as a normal KVK II so I am not worried about it, I just liked it.
Ralph.

Looks like a field made award, but it's odd that it shows no sign of lower pin hook.

Indeed a very odd KVK2 variant, thanks for showing.

Just spit-balling here but I wonder if it was done by ( or for ) the KVK2 recipient while he waited for his KVK1 presentation????

I could be wrong, or misread Webers brand new KVK 1st class book (it just arrived last week), but I thought he said that the KvK 2nd class had to be returned if awarded the 1st class. Will need to go back an look.
Anyway...maybe converted for a walking out tunic thus no lower clasp and no real need for one as the hinge is not functional. Like a stick pin. Just a thought
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
