Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1.Klasse mit Schwertern

Article about: Thanks guys! I am glad it is real. Luckily, if it had been outed as a fake I could have gotten my money back unlike my Floch EK1.

Default Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1.Klasse mit Schwertern(aka the L15 debate!)

    Hello all,

Added this piece yesterday. It was a neat award I think and very inexpensive.

Very nice and clean example of an under-rated order; congrats!

Yes, the round mounting plate for the pin hinge is a bad sign...

The L/15, L15, Orth, Lauer, Schickle, Floch debate has raged over these for a while now and with no conclusive answer.

You pay your money, you take your choice.

I personally like these crosses and consider them wartime made. The oval hinge plate is not like anything Floch has produced and there are none of the usual telltale Floch signs and features.

I like this one because the zinc base metal has absorbed the finish yet the hinge/pin/catch which is made from a different material has retained the silver wash. Hard for fakers to reproduce well.

Yep, I might be bucking the trend, may well be wrong an expect many to disagree but my opinion is based upon what I see befofe me and not based upon what everyone else thinks.

If you want a 'safe' KVK then buy another example. If you don't mind an educated risk and are prepared to buy a piece on it's own merit and with an open mind then this fits the bill.

L15s were discussed previously, and when I found it earlier it gave me a bit of a scare... But it seems the oval plate on the back is a positive. It seems if it were missing, that would be the red flag. Of course this is an old thread and more info could have come to light. That damn floch!! I might just start collecting those!

Per Adrian, Floch's are not grey zinc as this one seems to be ( I have a Damn Floch ! )
I rather like the look of this one, however, take a look at the sword grips - they are
off-center. This shows more clearly from the reverse.........

Indeed Walkwolf, They are off center. Looking closely at the swords I noticed both to have this attribute on the same side of the sword (the grips lining up to the right side of the blade looking at the reverse.) Also, on the back the hilt is not square either. So what does this new finding mean?

It means that the cross above matches every other L15 marked KVK 1.Klasse of this type, so not really a new finding as they've always been like it!

Late war types were likely rushed through under difficult circumstances,
so fit and finish was sacrificed, perhaps.........
