But first, a little history. .For seven months from December 1943 to June 1944 there was a front in our area. Skillfully using all the advantages of wooded and swampy terrain, the Germans created a strong engineering line of defense, which they had every reason to consider impregnable. To illustrate this very system of defense, we will use fragments of this map.
And if from time to time fierce battles for Krasnitsa and Sutoki flared up to the left and right of Davydovich, in the Davydovich area the opponents limited themselves mainly to searches for scouts and operations to capture the "tongue" and only occasionally switched to reconnaissance in force.

Four months before the start of Operation Bagration, the Germans, of course, improved their defense system even more. How many of our pants have this German invention tested?

By the way, military maps show that the road from Davydovich passed through Sutocki Berezniki and entered Sutoki in the center of the village.

The 260th Infantry Division was formed at Ludwigsburg. From November 9, 1943, the division was commanded by Robert Schlüter.

Major Friedrich Strom, born in 1908, was, of course, one of the most prominent figures in the history of the 260th Infantry Division, in the Reichswehr since 1927. On the line of defense along the Pronya River, Major Shtrom fought since October 1943 as deputy commander of the 460th Infantry Regiment. For battles that took place 10 kilometers northeast of Davydovich, on November 16, 1943, when Major Strom led a counterattack and recaptured the battalion's command post, in combination with other heroic actions, he was awarded the Knight's Cross on January 18, 1944.
Reserve captain Otto Finkon in October 1943 distinguished himself in defensive battles west of Krichev. On December 3, 1944, he was awarded the Knight's Cross.

Since the fall of 1943 - acting. commander of the 1st battalion of the 460th grenadier regiment. Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) - the degree of the military order of the Iron Cross, the highest order of the Third Reich, recognition of extreme bravery in battle or success in leading troops during World War II. Introduced on September 1, 1939 with the restoration of the Order of the Iron Cross. To be awarded, it was necessary to have all the previous degrees of the award (the Iron Cross of I and II classes), as well as to show unique valor and courage in battle, to complete a particularly difficult task. Hitler personally considered all the submissions for the award.

04/30/1944 For battles already in our area, junior lieutenant (oberfahnrich) Paul Kurt Kullmann, born in 1912, commander of the 2nd platoon of the fusilier (reconnaissance) battalion of the 260th infantry division, was presented to the Knight's Cross. His military services in the battles on the Arsenov Kurgan are described at the beginning of the article. He was also killed there. The 95th Infantry Division was formed on 19 September 1939 at the Wildflecken and Hammelburg military training grounds as the 5th Wave Division.
