Italian praetorian guard?

Hi,
Does anyone know who those "big" Italian guys are? Police, bodyguards, republican guards, ...?
They seem to be recruted on their physical dimensions.

I believe that they are Carabinieri from the Corazzieri regiment.

Yes sure. They belong to a special Regiment called 'Corazzieri' and based in Rome. Formally they are Carabinieri. The Corazzieri Regiment has a long history and in the past they were the life guard of Italian Royals. Now they are the guard of Italian Republic President. One of the characters of the Corazzieri is that to enter in the Regiment you must be at least 190 centimeters tall
