Hello Gents,, it has been brought to my attention that a Weyersburg 1st Luft dagger,,which appears in the classifieds,, has a questionable etching on the blade. Etched blades have always been a challenge for many members and a sharp eye including etched experience is needed to discern the difference between repro and authentic.....but also goes along with a 2 dimensional image compared to an in hand inspection. below are the pics in question...I feel overall the dagger itself is authentic..but my lack of etched experience I leave in the hands of those who studies this subject. Regards Larry

I believe this to be a post war etching made to deceive the unwary. Here's a link to dagger etching on a great dagger website that I have found to be invaluable. The differences in quality between good and bad are there for all to see.

    Getzte Klingen

I have it translated by Google, I dunno if it has come across with the link.

    Regards, Ned.

Look at the link closely. The crispness, depth and overall finish of the real deal is far superior to the bogus one that is illustrated below it. The one shown here is nearly identical in it's lack of finish and quality as to the fake in the link.

Then again, that's my opinion, you may disagree! There are plenty more good and bad to compare here if you use the search facility at the top of the page.

    Regards, Ned.

    Im with you Ned,

The etching: i dont see the quality thats needed.
Then let us discuss the dagger:
Lets says it would be genuine, then the following question raises:
The owner was proud enough to go the extra mile and pay for an etched weapon.
Then he would be proud of it too!
but......the weapon is not taken care after at all!!
    It just doesnt fit!
no runner marks on the etch? why? this weapon most be pulled in and out numerous times, its an early model!
IMO this etch is the last try to get decent money for a scrap dagger!

    Cheers Ger

    Very bad fantasy.
Paul Weyersburg never used etching blades on LW daggers.

Hi all.. i am the owner of this dagger, and it is for sale... could someone help me estimate the price ? .. in both cases:

    1. The dagger is original, but etching is post war
    2. Both dagger and etching is wartime authentic

    Thank you very much

It's hard to say, because of the poor etching, blade is destroyed.
    Chain carriers also missing.
    Maybe 650USD.
