I thought I had found an example confirming the crossguard on this Type 2 dagger as a WKC but then found a Horster example that has it too. Does this WKC dagger look original or possible parts dagger? Blade is WKC marked.

When I am looking at Heer daggers I go to wardaggers.com crossguard reference page to verify maker of crossguard vs markings on blade. Is there a similar resource showing luftwaffe dagger crossguards by manufacturer?

Hi Joseph yes there are ...Thomas Wittmanns Luftwaffe reference....Ralph Siegerts Luftwaffe reference

    also personal research and study.

The crossguard is not WKC as all the oakleaves on top of the guard are always recessed into the guard..the example you show is just on top of the guard. See the example below of a recessed oakleaf application.

it may be an Eickhorn crossguard based on the Whitman video I watched. I also read on WAF an article by Johnson that said WKC and Eickhorn supplied one another parts so crossguard could be original to dagger. I ended up purchasing before your feedback. I have a generic parts dagger with a WKC guard but hesitate to switch out based on the way the dagger appears to match overall.

Joseph you are guessing on authenticity by 2 words " Could Be " .......

" Could be " original to the dagger and " could be not " and yet you want to part together a dagger with other fittings from another producer that were not originally married together during production ?

What kind of dagger does that make?....all based on " Could Be " and for what gain?
This is a practice that is looked down upon in this hobby and serves no one including yourself that you will have to live with the doubt of "Could Be" ..or if you sell it parted together calling it original because it " Could Be " to someone else thinking they have a decent dagger.

Never purchase anything that you have less knowledge of unless you check it out first.

Larry sorry if I gave you the impression I would try to do something to fool someone - not what i would do.
I guess I assumed from your comment that the crossguard on the WKC was incorrect that it was already not original and had been messed with so wondered would it be better to put the correct crossguard on it at this point. I understand what you are saying now - better to leave it as is and study more before purchasing. Im not sure how one would ever be 100% confident something is original condition as it left the factory over 80 years ago without obtaining directly from a veteran or person that brought the item home following the war. And I agree that more education on the items being collected would help; I do try to research and have obtained books and search the forums etc before asking for help.

Hi Joseph and thankyou for that reply.

I was just surprised that you will be here 14 years this coming August and your post was that of a 1st year novice ...not just here in this dagger forum ..just reading some of your other threads throughout the forum here..gave me the impression of someone just asking real or fake questions.
Usually with someone of your tenure in years here and also knowing the mechanizations of the hobby what is to be expected and also the forum workings ...I was a bit surprised.

So from this point lets move forward and my hope is we need more teachers here and with your years here ...would fit in very well.
    Again Thankyou for that reply

    Best Regards Larry
