    Hello K/uber/A

A very nice DLV short in great condition.
Is there a letter marking on the off end of one of the crossguard sides?

    Regards Larry

Yes, I believe there to be a letter stamping on one of the crossguards. I'll have to take more photos to confirm.

    Hi Larry.

As promised I was able to take an additional picture of the "K" marking on the crossguard, the picture is not great but hopefully it is visible.

    So Larry,
For those of us who don't study these,
What does the letter marking mean?

Thanks, I only shoot my pictures on a Camera Phone since I lost my main camera at a music Festival lol.

The "K" alongwith with marking on the throat of the scabbard refers to the National Socialist Flying Korps, an organisation that filled a similar role to the DLV after it was disbanded.

My understanding is that the DLV effectively "turned" into the Luftwaffe, however it was realised that an organisation responsible for promoting aviation particularly among young people would still be useful to the party.

Although the NSFK adopted their own pattern of dagger with a textured anodised scabbard and aluminium fittings, most of the older DLV daggers were re-issued from stores and marked accordingly. As a result these items seemed to have belonged to the organisation as opposed to being personal items.

Thats a caster mark widely seen on these DLV short types ..but the identity of the Caster "K" is unknown.
Once in a great while an Eickhorn example surfaces which does not have the caster marking and is assumed that the whole dagger was produced in house by Eickhorn.
