Santi,
I have never seen a patriotic piece with the attached locket like your cross exhibits. Its a KO stamped piece and engraving and locket look as though there were added long ago. I personally like it and find it very interesting. Thank you for sharing!
Regards,
Joel

Hi Santi,
I've seen a few of these but I have never had the opportunity to get
one for myself. These were modifications done by jewellers. Everyone
that I have seen has had a picture of the soldier in them which makes me
think that these were done as a tribute to a lost loved one.
Very neat piece.

I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.

The SMU 19 engraved at the bottom stands for seiner Majestäts U-Boot 19. Apparently, the sailor pictured in the locket was a part of her crew. THe U-19 was Germany's first constructed diesel submarine. She was commissioned on 6 July 1913 under Kapitänleutnant Kurt Kolbe, surrendered to the British in 1919, and was broken up in Blyth in 1920. That is a very interesting EK, thanks for posting it.
