Re: Is this EK from the TR era or 1957?
Hi Scott. There was no need to re-make WWI Iron Crosses in 1957,
as they have no connection to the Third Reich - ie: No swastika !
First things you want to know are, is it made in three pieces
and does it have a magnetic core ?
I could be mistaken, but it appears to be a recent copy
to me, made within the last 15 years or so.........

Thank you! I was under the impression that Imperial EK's were were re -manufactured after 1957 for replacement pieces, I was wrong it seems. Thank you for the quick reply!

WW1 veterans could still purchase Imperial crosses as replacement well into the sixties alongside the 57er awards, as EKs were still in production and there was a small demand for them. However
not many were produced and they are getting hard to find these days. These crosses will show the same hardware and flaws as the 57er ones, but with a different core. The main manufacturers were S&L and Deumer if I'm not mistaken.
There is a good thread about them over on WAF, here is the link: EK Variant Reference Thread - Wehrmacht-Awards.com Militaria Forums
I agree with Steve that this one doesn't look right.

Hi Ingrid. I was not aware that WWI EK's were made post-war.
Perhaps with Scott's consent, you could post this cross at
Wehrmacht Awards to get some feedback on it.........?

I posted it last month on the WAF ,and it was quickly shot down as a modern fake that E bay is being flooded with. The seller had some questionable Medal Bars,so I should have taken that as a sign these might be bad as well.
