I post this cross every 3 or 4 years in hopes that someone might
    recognize the maker.

It has a non-silver frame which has details that look to match
those crosses made by AWS ( A. Werner and Sohn ) however the core does
not match the three accepted styles from that maker. Nor does it match any other
cross that I can think of. Also, the reverse hardware can not offer any clue as some
collector has removed the pin and catch and drilled the corners to mount to a display board.

Any help with this one would be appreciated.

    Thanks for that.
My hope is that someone else might find one of these that still has it's
pin and catch or maybe a 2nd class with a maker marked ring. The more clues
    the better.

I think that if nobody has been able to help you on this forum over the last few years, then the most likely option would be to join the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Ordenskunde, who are a research group based in Germany who specialise in researching german medals throughout history. The only trouble is that it is all in german and would cost you 60 euros to join. The website also seems a bit user unfriendly. It's more geared towards face to face meetings along with magazines which come with membership

If you click in to the "Extras" drop -down on their site, it will lead you to further research websites

    Good luck my friend
