I wish that I could help you with this but I have no expertise at all with
WBs. Hopefully someone will be along soon to give an opinion.

Hello
Thank you for your message,
I remain patient hoping to have a little more eclercicement
I especially try to be sure that it is indeed a Gold Type
Concerning the authenticity I have no doubts, for me it is good.
Thanks again
Gaetan
Hello Gaetan,
Without actually manhandling this badge it's a tough call with these photos and lighting. One thing in favour is the absence of obvious solder colouring around the hinge an catch areas. This will be very evident on a stripped brass/tombac badge. Try different lighting to enhance any highlights that might be there. I am cautiously optimistic.

could it have been plated after soldering the catch?.
for me the paint is original
it has very nice details all over the badge.
I wonder especially because the person I bought it from didn't really know what it was and didn't know where it came from.
I bought it at the price of a black grade
That is my whole point!
Gaetan, the new photos don't really add much to the assessment. As you have the item in hand, your impressions are what really count.
I was hoping to see base metal and finish combined, but these photos just don't do it. On the other hand, if the badge is magnetic it is a no-brainer. I have 8 of this type in all grades, plain and cut out. Most of these are magnetic. As it stands I don't know whether I am looking at brass or finish.

Brett
I completely understand what you are saying, unfortunately it is not magnetic.
The paint that is left over is very close to the color of brass but slightly more orange.
I will try to take more meaningful photography tomorrow.
What is certain is that I do not see anywhere a remnant of black or silver color.
Is your cut Out Gold model magnetic ?
Thank you very much for your help Brett
Cordially
Gaetan
Gaetan, The Gold that I have is not a cut out. It is tombac based with probably around 90% unmistakable gilding remaining. At the moment you are the best judge, as you actually have the badge in hand. If you are satisfied that the finish is original, roll with it, as I don't think photos are going to be any substitute for a loupe peeking into the nooks and crannies in this instance. As you mentioned, you only paid black badge price, so worse case scenario is that you end up with a badge with character that still displays well.
Regards
Brett
