Thanks JW for the link :-)
I guess I will have to take my chances, and try to find another one some day :-/ this is a little over ( my wife's) budget :-D
I know Greg, the first class is THE cross, but that is almost unobtainable for us "mortals" !

Never give up. Be the hunter, not the buyer. This is hobby in which miracles happen and dreams come true. I saw original Grand cross bought for 350 dollars (in the box with other medals, sic!), original Juncker Knights cross bought for 500 dollars and original EK1 1813 bought for 690 euros.
This prinzen EK was bought luckily too. Surely far lower than 3.250 dollars. Dealers sites are good for reference, that´s all what they are good for.

Went to a gun show today and passed on many imperial EKs. One seller had them in a heap (talk about not taking care of these things!). Another was slapping magnets against the core to "test" them, probably damaging their paint... 150.00 for an ek2 is just too much for me when I can luck out every so often and nab them on ebay for 40-50. I saw only one ek1 1914. It was a screwback and had a "closed" 4 and a goofy looking crown. Might have been fake.
Do you guys have luck at gun shows with EKs? Ebay will remain my primary stalking ground.

Well, sometimes yes.
Last time I went to a gunshow/militaria show, i came home with 7 good crosses !! 6 WW2 and 1 imperial, all in good shape and all at a fair price, not like a bargain but fair ;-)

I go to 2 shows a year. One in the spring and one in the fall.
Most time, I end up buying just 1 cross between the 2 shows.
Mainly because most of the stuff is TR era and prices are high.
However one of my rarest crosses was a lucky find at a show.
The best part of the shows is being able to see and touch the
real deal. Not just looking at them on a computer screen.
Plus you get to talk to others with the same interests. I have
been going to these same shows for nearly 30 years and have
become friends with some of the dealers. It has become more
of a social outing for me but I still enjoy the hunt.

That is interesting. I have never seen one
like this before. It looks to have been done
a long time ago.
