Hi Chaps, definitely not an EK2; but I thought I'd upload a close cousin which must have took some inspiration from the Prussian EK. This is a boxed Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross, II class, on combatant’s ribbon (Militärverdienstkreuz, II. Klasse, am Kämpferband), 1914. The Military Merit Cross was instituted by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II on 5 August 1848 and bore that year on its lower arm. Subsequent issues were awarded in 1864, 1866 and 1870, each bearing the year of award. On 28 February 1915 Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV renewed the Cross with the date ‘1914’, to be awarded retroactively from 2 August 1914,
Hi Chaps, just picked up the boxed EK2. The medal is a nice, sadly non-maker marked, standard EK2. I've not seen this type of private purchase box before with the bilingual French/German title. I know French was often used by the German States e.g. Pour Le Merite. But it does make me wonder if it came from the Alsace-Lorraine area,
Cheers,
Richard.
Hi Richard,
this box is not for an imperial EK.
2de Klasse is not German, if it would be German it must be 2te Klasse.
This box is from Belgium.
Gentlemen, my first EK2 in a collection - it has a Godet marking and also what appears to be a 800 stamp.
Since it is my first one, keen to hear the opinions of the local experts.
Hope the photos are good enough to give an opinion.
Thank you!
Hi Chaps, just picked up this WW2 LDO replacement Imperial EK1. Nicely marked L/11 for Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid,
Cheers,
