Hi Chaps, I've been after a screw back EKI for a while, what do you think of this one? I notice it doesn't have a pin at the top to stop it spinning. It that right?
Here's the write up that goes with the pics: -
"IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS WW1 Lightly vaulted form rear marked ' KO' with a large screw back disk also marked KO. very fine condition 99%of finish remaining to the front. Excellent detail. A good classic Iron Cross."
Richard,
I have always been afraid of these crosses. One of the first
fakes I ever bought was a "rayback" style cross.
The lack of a pin bothers me as does the KO makers mark.
Maybe Glenn will help me with this one but I don't ever recall
seeing a KO screwback but I might be wrong.

I've not seen a KO screw back either Greg. I wouldn't say that there wasn't such a thing but I'm not overly happy with this one. The rayback looks poor quality. The back of the cross seems to be frosted. The central dimensions of the cross seem more WW2 than WW1. If it was unmarked it would look more like a cheap WW2 made cross but why then would it be stamped KO or vaulted?
Personally I wouldn't buy it, however better photo's of the core and frame would help.
Hi Greg & Glenn, thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a miss. The dealer has 2 the same. They maybe o.k.; but the poor pics make me feel uneasy. Thanks again chaps, All The Best, Richard.
While we are are the subject of 'KO' marked EK's here my two such marked I and II EK's, salty & uncleaned, but from the same source in Germany, i like to think they have been together for years !... they certainly look like they have.
That's a nice pair
I like the 1st class. For some reason a lot of1st class KOs
seem to have a problem with paint.
Here is my example. It's got all sorts of paint loss. When I bought
this one , I had my choise between several crosses which were
in much better condition but this one just spoke to me. I love
the "been there-done that" look about it.
