Here's one of mine.

Marine Ober-Ingenieur Rudolf Boehler served as chief engineer on the U 19 from about 08.1915 to 11.1916, U 105 until circa 11.1917 and on the UB 76 until the end of the war.

He was on other U-Boots as well.

Here are his awards and his wrist watch. The U-Boot-Abzeichen is engraved as well.

These were obtained with photo albums from his pre-WW1 service on the SMS Scharnhorst through his U-Boot career.

He was on the U 19 in late April 1916 when it delivered Irish rebels Sir Roger Casement and his companions Beverly and Monteith (seen with Boehler and U-Boot commander Kptl. Weissbach in this photo grouping) to Tralee Bay to participate in the Easter Uprising. They were captured shortly thereafter and Casement was tried and executed in August 1916.

A nice slice of history there!

I like the Sir Roger Casement connection (he earned the knighthood by exposing the unfairness of the British empire towards the subjects of Nigeria) as I am reading a book about the 1916 easter rising at the minute and it has a picture of Sir Roger on the coning tower of U19 on the same voyage as the great pics in your album, I wonder if your man was in it? Ill try and get it posted.

The book is part of a walking tour of the 1916 Dublin rising which I would thouroughly recommend. 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour and the book is just as compelling.

As a postnote sir Roger was hanged and denied the soldiers right to death by firing squad, like Jodl after Nurenburg.

The book has absolutely nothing to do with Imperial Germany.
It is a old copy of "The Three Musketeers" that just happened to
be the right size for the photo.
