Need help identifying German/Prussian medals in photo
Have a photo of my great grandfather in uniform with what I believe is either Prussian or German pre-WWI medals. I recognize the Centenary Medal of Kaiser Wilhelm, but i cant identify the second medal. I'd also like to find out what the rank on his collar signifies. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
As this is a "colourised" picture I think the ribbon colours might be a bit "off" but my bet is this one;
The "War Commemorative Medal 1870-71 (Kriegsdenkmünze für die Feldzüge 1870–1871)"
Not sure about the stars (Rangsterne) on the collar but I am guessing at Hauptman (Capt)?

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
My guess is the China service medal.
As Watchdog said, the colors are off. The yellow ribbon for the Centenary medals appears blue.
That same thing is seen with the yellow stripe in the China medal.

I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.
My guess is the China service medal.

Hi Greg, I was waiting for you!
Much more your field than mine and I think you are right. I couldn't even get close to the wappen on the picklehaube either but it's fun trying

Chopperman, excellent! This makes sense now since i have photos of him in younger days where he is in Asia, presumably China. I think the mystery is solved. I appreciate your help. Thank you. And yes, the colorization software did change the colors of the ribbons.
