The 25 year clasp was awarded to veterans on the anniversary of the 1870-71 war . Also, this should be a 3-piece construction and not a one-piece award- ..better photos are needed, I'd like to see a seam where the silver frames are joined...Glenn
I need an 1870 , that looks nice
Here you can see the seam on my 1870 cross, indicating 3-piece construction (2 silver frames,1 iron core)...it's the first thing I look for in EKs...and although one-piece variants exist but I've only seen one-piece crosses of the 1914 version....I'd like to see what the others have to say...
Cheers, Glenn
It's a good one.

sorry to ask about another one in the same thread but i saw this for sale also i highly doubt its real (different sites) but im interested now and the guy claimd its a "rare varient with uniform straihteners on the back"
and the description the seller has is :
FOR SALE ORIGINIAL 1870 GERMAN IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS FROM 1870 YEAR. CROSS IS TARNISHED AND SHOWS ITS AGE, BUT OVERALL IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION.THE CROSS IS 3 PIECE CONSTRUCTIONS WITH MAGNETIC CORE. GREAT ITEM FOR COLLECTION OR DISPLAY
the "Latvian" fake.
This fake has been all over ebay and many dealer sites. It is found with several different
makers marks, pin and screwback attachments and in 1813.1870,1914 and 1939 variations.
VERY easy to spot because of the shape of the crown and the distintive look of the inner corners
of the beaded frame.
Here are some more examples of the same style cross.

Have a look at this thread. It shows excellent examples of Imperial Iron Crosses.
Once you take the time to study these a bit, you will be able to notice the differences
between the different makers and see what is good and what is bad on crosses you
may consider buying.
