An nice original Third Reich period made veteran replacement piece, hence the size 44x44 mm the same size as the "1939" EK's, mm "3" is the "Prasidialkanzlei des Fuhrers Lieferant" (State number) for "Wilhelm Deumer K.G." of Ludenscheid.
Prost ! Steve.
Looks like a good one to me.
As Steve said, a TR period made made cross.
We don't often see a "numbered" 1914 cross.

Guys I've very confused. I was under the impression that this was a WWI made EK 2. I know WW 2 EKs are 44mm, is that why you think that this is a WW2 made? What is the dimentions of a WW I made EK?
[QUOTE=wildkatz22;758455]is that why you think that this is a WW2 made? of a WW I made EK?/QUOTE]
No, I do not think, I know ! Wildkatz22....the basics for EK recognition, is at the very least, you know that TR markings, i.e. the LDO and State numbers do not appear on WW1 manufactured crosses ! You state in the thread on the Imperial EK II that you find reference books to be of little use.....you either have the wrong books or are not reading them !
Prost ! Steve.
You tell us that it's 44mm and that it has a "3" makers mark.
It's easy to see why we would think it is a TR made cross.
Let's see a clear shot of the maker's mark.
Maybe that is where the confusion started.

Steve,
Didn't mean to question your judgement, marely asking how to identify one from the other (should have reworded the question). You answered my follow up question as to what the markings were. The references I had are really bad 1. WW II collectibles by Michael Haskew and 2. the Snyders treasures which i have been told not to use because of so many fakes. And you are also right about me not reading them all the way through as well.
Greg,
It's my fault for not measuring carefully. Here are the pictures of the marking on the suyspension ring. I took as best of a picture as i could. Thank you.
First and most important piece of advice I can give you.
Stay away from Snyders Treasures. There is nothing but
pure crap on that site.

The mark on your cross is not a 3. I am not sure what it is,
You would need to compare it against pictures of other marks
and against a list of makers. Do a search in Imperial and
somewhere there is a makers list posted.
Here is a picture of what a correct "3" makers mark would like.
Note that Deumer's maker mark was a raised 3 in a incused box.
