    Default Prussian Flieger Erinnerungsabzeichen

    Hello everyone,

A collector friend bought this pendant at a militaria show in Holland. It appears to be a minitiature version of a Prussian Flieger Erinnerungsabzeichen. On closer look at the back he noticed that the pendant must have had a pin and catch construction. Traces of it are still visible as well as tiny file scratches.

In his opinion it is not likely a "Prinzen Grosse variant of the origional badge, but more like a privatly purchased badge for wear on civilian clothing. At some point the badge was made into a pendant and the even patina suggests it was done a long time ago. It is made out of silver by the company of Paul Maybauer, and the silver hallmark might have been on the removed pin. It weighs 12 grams and the dimensions are 4,7 by 3 cm.

Has anyone seen a variant like this before? Could it be a Prinzen Grosse badge that has been changed into a pendant, and if so, is it authentic? Would anyone go to the trouble with a fake to remove the pin construction and add a suspension (which is very nicely done)?

I'm looking forward for your input and expertise.

    Cheers Paul

Based on these images, it looks good. Meybauer did produce a range of Halb-Miniaturen like this, and they were known to have postwar modifications like this, usually done by the wife as a keepsake. It's an interesting item.

I took the liberty of reaching out to someone who knows a lot about
    Imperial aviation badges.

He says that it is an original Meybauer Prinzen sized badage and that he thinks that
as does Vince, that this was probably made with this modification.
    Possibly as a watch fob.

Right, I forgot to mention that the weight quoted, less reverse hardware, is what I would expect.
