    Default Stoneleigh Military Fair

Hi all. Just thought I'd post my hord from yesterdays (sun 31st jan) fair at Stoneleigh.

It was my first time there, so I was pretty spoilt for choice.... which was just as well cause I was skint!

My first purchase was a German number plate from an armoured car. It still has the light housing unit about the plate. It was found about 5km from Stutthof Concentration Camp.

The next thing I got was an early aluminum MG 34/42 ammunition box. What caught my eye was it was riddled with bullet holes!! It looks like its been hit with a short burst of machine gun fire! There's also a hole to the front of the box, which exits on the side.... beautiful!

The box was full of British 303's from Dunkirk, and part of a Vickers MG belt. Anyway.... it was a bargain!

I then bought a relic German M35. It was found in the Halbe Forrest. It still has lots of the original green paint visable, but the helmet looks very very small! I'm beginning to wonder if it belonged to a teenager!!! Hitler Youth maybe?? Guess we'll never know, but still a great relic helmet!

My last buy of the day was a bit of a curve ball for me... but I thought it was great! Its an 8ftx5ft American stars and stripes flag from Afghanistan. The guys son has just returned from a tour of duty with the British Army, and he swapped some souveniers with an American Marine, and got this flag in return! It's flew over Camp Bastion, and other military camps in the area! I love it

Haha, I thought you'd like the ammo box mate! Beautiful isn't it eh... and the Vickers belt was inside it with a load of other bits found on the beach at Dunkirk!!

Sadly for me though, all these bits will be sold on ebay or Specialist Auctions! I'm skint at the minute, so I thought if I can get a good few bits, I'll sell them on and try and get some money to get some more deacts! Plus I could do with a new MD

At the risk of exposing my ignorance can you explain the above please? I genuinely don't know the reasons/traditions/protocol etc....
It would also be useful to pass on to my brother who collects U.S. militaria and has a huge collection of U.S. flags.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Hi Adrian, I forgot to tell WoodyUK, that he also has the flag backwards. The "Union" (blue field of stars) is always to face to the flags own right (to the observers left) when hung on a wall or put in a window......

The Flag is also not supposed to ever touch the ground, and was to destroyed suitably if so, like burning it. (Sec.8b flag code) This is mostly I see not followed to close by everyone here in the US anymore, but I always make an effort to treat my flag with respect, since I was a small child.
I have for almost 50 years now the coffin sized 48 star flag from my Uncle, (Mothers brother) who was killed in WW2 that given to me when young, and do not think it's hit the ground yet

Here's a site with U.S. Flag code......everything you ever wanted to know.

LOOK....Also a "Wall of Shame" this is GREAT!!!! The "Governator" (governer) from my home state of California, had the flags backwards leading into his office in Sacramento, until a Chinese National visiting pointed it out!! What an idiot, typical of how screwed up California is now.

    Flag Code

    American Flag Wall of Shame

Thank you Steve! That is certainly an education. I know it always annoys me when my colleagues (some of whom are ex-servicemen) fly the Union Jack upside down at work on flag days.

HaHa, it sure is. Also the Wall of Shame should be standard reading. I have seen the Mexicans, some if not most here illegally, doing some things with my countries flag that disturbs be to say the least. They have even tried to replace the American flag, at I think some school in Southern California. Again, disturbing to say the least.

Also another tidbit....when you see American soldiers with a US flag on the arm of their uniform, the union blue field of stars is always supposed to be forward to the front.....so when you are walking forward, the flag will be faced like it would be blowing with wind coming at you.

    Regards, Steve
