  • incredible WW1 ground digged find!!!!!!!

    Attachment 239299Attachment 186914I'm sharing here with the WW1 aficionados,what i think is the most incredible find for a couple of years ,in our soil of France.
    A member of my french forum digged this stuff last week,in a kind of dump site.
    This is not something our eyes are able to see without instantly crying....
    And it's only the beginning,he's today back on the place and keep on diggin'!!

      Amazing. What is that square area they were found in? It looks like a sump of some type. I'm surprised that the leather liners of the helmets aren't in better condition being in that dark soil and being kept wet, i thought those kind of conditions preserved leather! If the conditions changed enough in that pit for the leather to rot, dried out in summer moist in autumn, then i would have thought the conditions would have been ideal for rust and corrosion to have attacked the steel shells but they look in remarkable condition for having been in that pit for 90 years, lucky find. And they're for sale now as well, very lucky find. Just as well that no one else has poked around there for the last 90 years
