I need some help identifying this Imperial German Iron Cross plaque...

Any ideas what this plaque would have been used for? The reverse suggests it once had a bolt at the center, and looks as if it may have been attached

NOTHING LIKE DISCOVERY OF ARTIFACTS: I must admit i even was excited to see the old coal shuttle german helms with the camo scheme still totally intact. soil and climate just right perserves digging along the battlefields of the american civil war they discovered leather boxes and boots belts ect all in the bottom of a creek bed that ran along 7 pines all totally preserved.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I hate living in the US. There are no spots where civilians can dig! Yet French people in their backyard can dig up thousands of dollars of rare militaria like its nothing! AHHHHHH! Most I can dig up in my back yard are old nails.
