  • New Subscriber here needs help

    Hello all,
I am a new subscriber that just joined. I have been collecting primarily Olympic stuff for the last 40 years. I generally do it By buying collections for the 2 or three items I really want and put the other stuff in boxes. Anyway, it is time to start cleaning stuff out and I ran across this stuff and I have more. (It was from a lot I was collecting on Jesse Owens and is primarily from the 30's-50's and WW2). My family is heavy military so I was thinking of starting collecting Military Items for my son (He is a Major and Pilot in the US Air Force, My father was in the Navy both WW2 and Korean War and documented as being in the first Wave ashore at Iwo Jima and is buried at Calverton National Cemetary and my grandfather was in WW1 and WW2 in the US Army). All that being said The Jesse Owens stuff was verified and Authenticated and I would like to figure out if these items are real of reproduction and what their worth is.

    My Questions
    1. Is there a way to tell if real or fake?
    2. Which ones are Valuable and I see stuff on ebay going for 5.00 and 2000..
    3. I know with Autographs and Sports cards there is PSA/DNA and James Spence as the standard for Authentication, Which Company is the gold standard in the Military Items word?

    Any Help appreciated.Attachment 1572522Attachment 1572522

Hi and welcome! Yes there is a way to tell the good from the bad. Once authenticity has been established pricing is down to research and comparison on auction and militaria sites and world class opinion and authentication depends on the item....but its free to send some pics to militaria sites or post on here for opinions from experts who have been buying/selling/looking at these things for years. A thumbs up on here would be taken as good as any experts opinion within the collecting community and establish the originality, and therefore the value, and then its down to you how you achieve the best outcome. Auction you get half the value,25%comms and 25% buyers fee, of what the buyer actually pays to own it, sites look to pay 40/60% depending on condition and rarity, consignment 75/85% but is slow to get your money in some cases.
Good option is to pay for a years membership on here and that enables you to advertise the items to all the collectors gathered here....downside is they will want collectors prices....60/70%? ?
Interesting collecting Niche...did you know that Hitler didnt snub Jesse Owens as popular theory has it..he actually waved to Owens in recognition of his win but had decided not to meet any of the winners so he was treated exactly the same as everyone else...but Owens was snubbed by FDR when he returned home and had to use the goods lift at the Waldorf Astoria winners homecoming reception because he wasnt allowed to use the front door because of his colour. He won 4 Gold medals but was forbiden from riding in the front of a bus...the nazis werent the only racists back then.
