here is the third one.

The badge was revised at an unknown date, probably in the 1970s.

It had a longer one-piece wire on the back which was simply soldered to the base plate.

Transitional models still have the base plate with the two holes for the individually soldered short wires.

New base plates have an elongated groove where the wire was placed.

A countersunk head screw was soldered on top of it for fastening.

There is also no precise information about the production period of this model. The specialist for GDR medals and awards Klaus H. Feder assumes that this model was replaced by one without a colored national coat of arms (fourth model) around 1988. Approx. can also mean earlier.

The problem with the later pieces is that they were still reproduced for the collectors' market after October 1990.
The distinction from the 1988 and 1989/90 variants doesn't make this easy.

So base plates appear that would have to come from up to 5 embossing blocks. What is striking are the rings on the back, which have different positions and diameters.

There are variants that simply could not have existed.
There could have been others.

I've left that out here because it's worth a separate topic with regard to the variants 1988 and 1989/90.

Hello,

Here is a variant with a brass-plated or brass base plate. You can only really see the difference on the back. You can clearly see the color difference between the bronzed medallion and the jump number pendant.

For comparison, I added pictures with the standard piece with a bronzed base plate. The color difference is noticeable.
