Here is a piece of equipment not often seen.
The East German Army winter camouflage smock. Not much information filtered about it.
I believe most of the smocks were kept in reserve, the ones issued were probably for elite units.
The style reminds us of the early WW2 German simple one piece white smock.
For easy access the equipment was worn on top of the smock.
There is 3 set of drawstring, one for the hood, the collar & the waist.
One opening on each side provides easy access to the uniform underneath.
Note the year of manufacturing, N for 1989!
In order to free the legs movements better one could button up each front panel to the side of the smock.
Note the material of thin cotton.
View of the closed collar.
The hood was large enough to fit over the helmet in case of necessity.
The photo who inspired me for this presentation.
