Its time to have a look at this Nationale Volksarmee Winter field uniform from before the mid 60s.
After that period the Winter uniform began to be slowly modified.
Simple design, no hood or warm collar.
Easy access to hide your hands from the cold.
The exterior was made of heavy cotton.
The interior was made of synthetic material, as for the insulation I could not tell.
Note the drawstring.
Interior normal pocket not a pistol one.
The date as vanished over time from the stamping.
Note the size tag & the jacket's hanging loop.
Nice view of the cotton & synthetic material.
The trousers were made of the same material as the jacket.
One of the first future modification will be to replace the trousers' bottom drawstring with boutons.
The trousers could be closed by elastic & boutons at the waist.
Note the side pocket & the "D-ring" to attach suspenders.
Size tag, "D-ring" & hanging loop.
The identification stamping is at strange location.
The Winter uniform will be modified with more pockets, "Strichtarn" camouflage pattern material & a warmer Soviet fur style removable collar over the next years.
