I've noticed these knives with a number stamped into the wooden grip rather than an engraving, maybe a quartermasters ID number?....
Gunny,
the reserve, (emergency), chute had an internal number.
The cord cutter knife was assigned the chute, (corresponding number), not to the Para !
Sometimes the number of the reserve chute was painted upon the hilt of the cord cutter knife, sometimes burnt in.
Most of such knives aren´t showin´ any numbers ...
I´m not sure that the engraved number on my cord cutter knife is such a number ? ...
Hi, I bought another Kappmesser / cord-cutter knife made in Poland for the NVA / Nationale Volksarmee.
The "last model" of the cord cutter knife, produced in the GDR / Deutsche Demokratische Republik for the NVA, is still relatively common.
However, the model made in Poland for the NVA is relatively rare...
Here is another cord cutter knife from the NVA which has a number on the blade.
Such specimens are relatively rare to find !
This knife shows the number F/394
A similar cord cutter knife with the number A192 on the blade was recently auctioned off at a German online auction house for EUR 221 (USD 238 / GBP 189), plus shipping!
