Hello,
I have joined the WRF today. I reside in Sydney, Australia. I am retired.
I am a German Film poster and ephemera collector (pre-1945). I own over 500 original German film posters from the Third Reich, Occupied Belgium, Occupied France, Böhmen & Mähren/Protektorat, Fascist Italy and Hungary, and a few German film posters from Imperial Japan. Also from neutral countries in WWII such as Sweden. Also a good selection of original Italian Fascist film posters, particularly military WWII posters.
I am the author of four books on/about German Film Director Karl Ritter:
Karl Ritter: His Life and ‘Zeitfilms’ under National Socialism (2012,2014), The Making of The Crew of the Dora (2016, “Besatzung Dora), Karl Ritter’s Lost 1939 feature film Legion Condor (2019), and Hitler Youth Quex – A Guide for the English-speaking Reader (2022).
My poster and NS film ephemera collection can be viewed at:
Welcome Billy! I had a very brief period where I also collected this type of stuff (I actually forgot I had these!) They are a little later, from recently occupied Germany and are approved by the 'military Govt'. My interest didn't last long but I do appreciate that its a very interesting hobby! Always good to see another Australian aboard! Cheers.
Thank you for your message and question. I do not collect political posters, only cinema ones.
The HJ feature film posters you can find on my website include HÄNDE HOCH!, KADETTEN,
HITLERJUNGE QUEX, JAKKO, and that of the ca. 50 minute long documentary film DER MARSCH ZUM FÜHRER.
Also both of the feature film posters for S.A-MANN BRAND which has a HJ murdered, who is one of
the main characters in the film. In 30 years of collecting I have not found for sale any posters for the remaining
HJ feature films KOPF HOCH, JOHANNES!, HIMMELHUNDE, JUNGENS, or DIE BANDE VON HOHENECK. There was
no poster printed for the last HJ feature film JUNGE ADLER (July 1944) due to paper shortages, as stated in the
Ufa studio press sheet I have.
Hi William, I think the new user forum does not allow publishing of photos. I'd forgot this. So my pics won't work here. Perhaps start a thread on the 'Photos - Papers - Propaganda of the Third Reich' section; I'd love to see some film posters of the era.
