Please show the front of the pin. I have been at this a long time and have no idea what SAR II stands for.
A complete title in lieu of a made up abbreviation would be appreciated

SAR II (although it was usually spelled S.A.R. II in the period) is the acronym for SA-Reserve II.

The badge looks like this: Stickpin - SA service?

As HPL says: SA-Reserve II. If you do have volume 3 for the headgear-series,
then have a look at page 434.

Here the announcement from the "Mitteilungsblatt der Reichszeugmeisterei",
nr. 23 from November 3, 1934. The back should have an RZM indication with
number for the manufacturer. I have no idea if specimen with a manufacturers
    indication were allowed. Officially not!!

Hi Wilhelm. Thanks for that Information. Now it gets a little confuse.
The design for this needle was protected by law (gesetzlich geschützt) to the leader of Reichskriegerbund, General Reinhard!
In march 1934 design was accepted by head of SA. Because of problems in production first needles where send to members end of june 1934.
Responsible for production and selling was only the Reichskriegerbund. An Agreement with SA told that all SA-selling shops (Verkaufsstellen ) are allowed to sell this needle also but they have to get them through the Beschaffungsstelle des Reichskriegerbundes (Reichskriegerbundoffice like RZM-Office). First needles where send to the SA-Shops on july 15, 1934. This Agreement ended in Dezember 1934 and from now on only the Beschaffungsstelle des Reichskriegerbundes was selling the needle. From december 1935 on it was forbidden to wear the needle for all members of SA.

To find this needle with RZM mark is very seldom. Most items have a manufacturer identification and no RZM

My information are written in the "Parole-Buch", the official Journal of the Reichskriegerbund!

So, what is right and what is right?

    Sorry for my bad english

I showed what was announced in the RZM-source,
just as information. And so I only have read what
the RZM says. In the announcement nothing is said
    about the Reichskriegerbund.
I have no other sources, as this kind of material does
    not interest me.

Thanks for clearing things up. I had one of these affixed to a bayonet scabbard that was vet purchased in the mid 60's. I was aware of it's meaning but was not familiar with the abbreviation.

Just an information besides. The needle shows a hat for a "Landsturm"-soldier ( I do not know the english word for "Landsturm" ) during the german wars of Liberation 1813 to 1815 against Napoleon.
