It certainly looks old but the condition is bad, no labels or insignia plus the nice red colour is very faded.
These kepis have been around since I began collecting. They are all pink top indicating an Austrian SA connection. All are poorly made and came with the incorrect civil eagle, not the political eagle. Someone came up with the theory that these were quickly made to furnish to Austrian SA units during the annexation. There is no proof of this theory that exists. Further, there is are no photographs to affirm this theory. They would be easy to spot with the incorrect eagle and also an incorrect chin strap that should be jointed in the center. As the correct eagle would be readily available in 1938, it makes no sense that the civil eagle was affixed to these caps I have always considered these to be theatrical pieces that were sold as surplus after they served their purpose in a cinematic production.
